Salina Tourney

28 June at Salina Central and Salina Soccer Park

Game 1: vs Buhler

Our band of 20 opened with an 8-1 win. We lead 5-0 at half. We played fine, but our defense faced few challenges. We did give up a goal dribbling at defensive center midfield without a couple of lines of coverage in the back. It was a nice finish.

We finished 3 corners, after creating 5 a half.

1. Heying corner put back for Feuerborn back heel.
2. Johnston boxes it for Feuerborn knock-in.
3. Heying corner for a Gabriel shot from center runner.
4. Younger flicks forward for Schneller break-away.
5. Schneller squares it for Johnson rocket from 20.

2nd Half
6. Schneller dispossesses centerback. Chips keeper.
7. Johnston corners Brown back post run.
8. Heying chips back line. Younger chips keeper.

Semis:  8-0 vs. Salina South.
The game was decent for about 10 minutes but South subbed in their JV to give them playing time. Play desinigrated.

1. Feuerborn finishes Johnston's box ball.
2. Stoecklein drills the Kutey T-cross from the slot.
3. Kutey finished the Johnson through ball.

Second Half:

5. Bartlett chips to Schneller.
6. Air box ball from Johnston to Younger for a half volley.
7. Feuerborn.
8. Gabriel T's it through the Schneller dummy to Kutey

Bracket Champinship vs. Wichita East
5-4 in PK's

Well, I felt a little déjà vu in this one as we just could not put the ball into the net.

The game did allow us some PK practice. And that can't be bad. We won it with our 6th kicker, Matt Johnson. Engle did a really nice job of saving 1 and getting his hands on two more. (They skied another).

Brown, Johnston, Bartlett and Heying all hit within the first 5 as well.

So good enough to advance.

Second Championship vs. Rose Hill
2-1

Ok we were dragging in our 4th match of the day against one of the favorites in 4A who had taken out Derby, SC and Shawnee Heights in their bracket.

We got and early T-ball goal on a Geist cross with a Stoecklein finish. That should have been enough but we got broken down in the back to give up a goal.

But Luke scored on a Johnston second half corner to win it.

Overall:

We obviously were missing our two starting centerbacks. I doubt we would have given up a goal if they were present.

But we need to get a lot better in the front third as we really struggled to score against decent teams like East and Rose Hill.
